| Teaching Academy In partnership with Hamline University, Center for Excellence in Urban Teaching, and The University of Wisconsin--River Falls, the Teaching Career Academy is an elective program designed to encourage and prepare students to consider a teaching career by (1) providing a rigorous, standards-based curriculum focused on teaching. learning, and children; (2) offering field experiences with diverse populations and community service learning opportunities; and (3) linking students to post-secondary opportunities. Currently, three courses are offered: Introduction to Teaching, Developmental Psychology, and Teaching Methods. Each course utilizes college-level textbooks, and includes a field experience with Saint Paul Public School students. An Advisory Board of students; post-secondary professors and administrators; and school and District personnel help shape the policies and procedures of the Academy. Initially supported by a planning grant from The Council of the Great City Schools and Recruiting New Teachers, Inc., the program is currently supported by building and District funds as well as grants from Cargill Corporation, Ceridian Corporation, ECOLAB, ING, The NEA Innovation in Education Fund.
